260 DAYS
The famous American screenwriter Barry Morrow, who also won an Oscar for the screenplay for the film “Rain Man”, starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruz, commented on the novel 260 DAYS by Marijan Gubina:
“I haven’t read such a powerful work in a long time. I want the screenplay for 260 DAYS, in which I will follow an authentic story based on an excellent novel, to be the crowning achievement of my career… It is not just a Croatian story, it is understandable and acceptable to the whole world!”
Three months after the prominent comment, Oscar-winning Barry Morrow signs the screenplay for 260 DAYS.

The novel “260 Days” is exceptional for a number of reasons. In the opinion of many, it is the best book about the suffering of Croats in the Homeland Defense War, the most authentic as literature. The novel has been printed several times in Croatia, translated into several world languages, and all the comments about its literary quality (which is based on the fate of the writer and sufferer Marijan Gubina) are truly great. This novel has left no one indifferent to everything that Marijan and his family went through, so it is not surprising that there have been several ideas to adapt this novel for the screen.
After several conversations, I and all my collaborators (including the last ones, the Americans, who only recently read the novel), are ready to do everything to finally make a real, authentic film on the subject of the suffering of Croats in the Homeland Defense War. This is also a kind of obligation of our generation that went through that war and perfectly remembers many details that cannot be forgotten.
Ignoring these topics that are key to understanding Croatian independence by Croatian institutions can be sad, but by no means discouraging to the ultimate goal, and that is the right film that will be seen in Croatia, but also in the world.
